Hairstyles for Round Faces
Mar232009Celebrities can be trend setters when it comes to the latest hairstyles. When I see a hairstyle I like on a celebrity I admire, I look at their hairstyles closely and try to emulate it. I also keep in mind that wearing the latest hairstyles I see on celebrities may not work on my face. When trying to wear the right haircut or hairstyle it is important to know your face shape, and to choose a hairstyle that is appropriate for what you want to do in life.
For the next couple of weeks I will be talking about the best hairstyles for long, square, oval, round, and heart shaped faces. This week I will focus on round shaped faces. Round faces can style their hair in soft long layers and do best without full bangs. Round faces look better to avoid styling hair so that it is full at the sides of the face; rather keep hair sleek and smooth over that area. Curls are a great option for this face shape. Curly hair styles can be quick and easy to style. I have provided pictures below to show you what I mean.
Rihanna’s long layered, curly hair, works easily on round shaped faces.
You can also try Halle Berry’s, short curly wedge shaped hair style.
If you have long hair you can do ponies, half up do’s, twists, buns, scarves, or braids.
The options are almost endless!
A great question was brought up last week about the difference between rinse off and leave in conditioners. Let me break it down to you.
What is similar about these conditioners is that they both have many of the same ingredients. They also make your hair easier to comb, they moisturize your hair, leaving it smoother and they help a little with heat. But here are the differences.
Leave In
Leave in conditioners don’t contain most of the emollient ingredients that are in rinse off conditioners. It is much thinner because they don’t include heavy lubricating emollients or thickeners and has a small amount of styling ingredients. If you have thin, limp, fine hair, I definitely recommended this product. It adds some body and soft control for this hair type.
Rinse off
Rinse off conditioners have the same properties as leave in but they differ in thickness. They contain a lot more thickening agents, emollients, and silicones to help maximize retention on the hair shaft. I would highly recommend this for those that have thick, dry or damaged hair.
If there is a rinse off or leave in conditioner that you absolutely love, please post it and share it with all of us.
The Best Silicones for Black Hair
Mar32009If you are like me, it can take a while before you find the right moisturizer for your hair. And we all have our favorites, but if you have hair that is dry, coarse, thin to thick, then you need to try silicones. Silicones come in a lot of different ingredients. They are typically listed on an ingredient list as dimethicone, pheyltrimethicone, or clyomethicone, but there are many more.
So what is absolutely great about silicones is that they have the ability to cling to and spread over, under and around the cuticle. They move around easily over the hair shaft and hold up really good under water pressure. If you flat iron your hair at all, they really do a good job at smoothing out any rough edges on the cuticle. It has a lush, velvety texture that makes the hair feel really silky smooth. But don’t go overkill on it because If you use too much it can leave a greasy rather than silky feel. I have tried using mineral oil, petroleum and plant oils when flat ironing my hair, but they leave more of a sticky feel.
So if you want to try it out, here are some products to use that cost less than $8.00.
African Royale Diamond Drops ($4.99 for 2 oz.)

Soft Sheen Carson Megahertz Hi:Gloss Serum ($5.99 for 2.5 oz.)

St. Ives Hair Repair NO Frizz Serum ($7.50 for 1 oz.)
