Monthly Archives: April 2009

If you looked at Oprah’s hair over the years, you know it looks good. It looks so good, that people have been wondering if she has a weave or not. Well, the suspense is over. At the end of the April 24, 2009 episode of “Oprah Fridays Live,” Oprah addressed this burning question that was asked from one of her “Tweeples”. She said “This is not a weave. This is my hair.”

And to prove it, she showed a picture of what it looks like before it gets doen in the morning. Judge for yourself!

obsessed

Beyonce’s new movie Obsessed plays in movie theaters today. It’s about a successful asset manager played by Idris Elba, who has just received a huge promotion and is blissfully happy in his career and in his wife, played by Beyonce Knowles. But a temp worker starts stalking him and the wife ain’t having it.

Now I love most of the wigs Beyonce wears but frankly the one she wears in this movie is ugly. I dislike the color and the wig is just too big and too much hair. Instead I like the one she wore to the movie premiere. She looks very pretty.

rihanna-bad-hairHave you ever wondered how your hair looks bomb only for a couple of days? It moves easily and each hair stays exactly how you want it. But then the next day it doesn’t act the same? You wrapped your hair up the night before like you’re supposed to. You used the same hair products. But it isn’t as lively as it was yesterday. It’s kind of frustrating. So after paying attention to what made my hair look good one day and then messed up the other day, I figured it out!

  1. Over a couple of days conditioning agents (e.g. hair grease, hair oil) and styling products (e.g. gel or hair spray) build up on hair causing the hair to be heavy and lifeless.
  2. When the environment is either humidity, dry or change in weather, it can alter your hair. For instance, when it is very humid outside your hair can take on moisture from the air and it can replace its moisture contact to the air when dry outside. This can leave the hair really puffy.
  3. If you think you hated being on your menstrual cycle, so does your hair. Increased estrogen production the week before you get a period can trigger increased oil production, making hair limp and dull.
  4. Lastly, if you have hair that is damaged from over styling of chemicals and heat, it is susceptive to
all variations of humidity, dryness, hormonal activity and styling. Damaged hair is more porous and its cuticle is much rougher.

michelle-obamaOk, I am tripping. I realized that I haven’t written about First Lady Michelle Obama. She is one of my favorite people in the world right now. She is so pretty, intelligent and warm. I haven’t met her, but I hope I will one of these days. President Barack Obama has been a big hit with crowds in Europe this week, but it is his beautiful wife, Michelle who has been getting most of the attention. Her style and flair is spectacular. So spectacular I had to make a comment about her hair. This look is my favorite so far. I love the bangs that were added. It gives her a more youthful look while at the same time she looks very classy.

I also want to mention that Michelle and her mother will be on the cover of Essence May 2009 magazine. They look great. In the meantime, I will be keeping an eye on Michelle. I look forward to the next style she comes up with.

Last week, I talked about hairstyles for round faces.  This week I’m going to talk about the best hairstyles for long faces.  If you have a face that is longer than it is wide, with a long straight cheek line, then this is considered a long face.   The goal of your hairstyle should be to balance the look of your long and slender face.  You want a style that adds width on the sides of your face because it will minimize the long look that you currently have. Consider styling your hair with bangs, chin-length bobs and cuts to create the illusion of width.

Avoid hairstyles that are extremely long or extremely short because those styles will give the impression that your face is even longer. Also avoid layers on the top of your head, up swept bangs, or center parts, these hairstyles will add too much height and lengthen your face.

Below are some pictures of women that have long faces with the perfect hairstyle.
