The Real Deal with Biotin Vitamins
Feb12010
Many people are using the Biotin dietary supplement because of its claim of making your hair grow. Before you decide to take Biotin here are the facts.
What is it?
Biotin is part of Vitamin B complex which helps in nourishing scalp, follicles and hair. Biotin supplements are often recommended as a natural product to counteract the problem of hair loss in both children and adults. This B-vitamin is found in rich foods like soy, milk, egg yolks and liver.
What are the benefits?
When normal intake of biotin is supplemented, it is suppose to help restore hair loss and keep skin and nails looking healthy. Biotin helps relieve cradle crap in newborns and is very effective at controlling blood sugar levels in diabetics.
What is the side affects?
Side effects from biotin supplements should not occur if the vitamin is taken within recommended amounts. If side effects do occur, lowering the dosage of biotin is usually sufficient to eliminate these effects.
Conclusion
If you started taking Biotin for your hair, it would take months for the effect, if any, to show up. Hair has to grow to be affected by a new addition to your diet. So it is not possible for an instant change to your hair to show up. Trace minerals and drugs can show up in hair analysis after the hair is chemically broken down and treated, but that doesn’t mean you would be able to detect a difference in your hair between the months you took the vitamin supplements and the months you didn’t. Biotin is not FDA approved so you are taking it at your own risk.

Hair Alert: Zoe Saldana
Jan182010
Although the Golden Globes is an award show for acting, I think an award should go to the best dressed and the best hair. And if they gave such an award I would give it to Zoe Saldana. If you don’t know who she is, that is probably because you didn’t notice her without her blue skin. She played as Neytiri the daughter of Na’vi clan leaders in the box office smash hit, Avatar. Of course her burgundy Louis Vuitton gown was just outstanding. But her hair looked great too. The long deep waves, fits well on her small skinny frame. I would recommend this look for women who have long hair and want to try a shorter look that isn’t too short.
To achieve this fabulous look:
After the hair is shampooed and conditioned, section the hair off in two to three inch sections. Set each section with a foam setting lotion and jumbo rollers. You want set this wet because it gives your hair more body and long lasting, bouncy curls. Completely dry your hair under a hooded dryer. Release the rollers and lightly finger comb the hair. Finger combing is better for this look because it just loosens the curl pattern. Spray oil sheen spray and go!
And I will continue to watch out for Zoe and see what else she will be doing with her hair. Sources say the actress will become the new model face of Avon’s newest fragrance, Eternal Magic.
HAIR ALERT: Fantasia Barrino
Jan112010
Although Fantasia has been known to have some real exotic hair styles, she has definitely had some head turners. I love this curly bob look. I think it fits her face perfectly, giving her a soft look with a little bit of edge.
As many of you know, Fantasia Barrino won the third season of American Idol at just 19 and her life has never been the same. Her first album went platinum; her autobiographical book made the New York Times bestseller list and lifetime made a movie about her based on her book. She was even fortunate to land the lead role in Oprah Winfrey’s Broadway production of The Color Purple. Whew! She was busy.
But then things started to turn for the worse in her professional career and personal life. Her second album didn’t sell so well and she had to support a family of six. So VH1 has created a new reality show “Fantasia for Real,” premiering Monday (January 11) at 10/9c following Fantasia as she takes care of her family while building her career.

Tyra Banks National Real Hair Day!
Sep92009
As declared from Tyra Banks, today is national natural hair day. So I just got finished watching the first episode of the Tyra Banks show where she reveals her natural hair. I really liked a couple of things she tried to explain about wearing weaves and wigs as options and not for everyday use. I think a lot of us can get caught up in thinking that we have to look like a celebrity everyday. Bu t hell, celebrities don’t look like celebrities every day. She had her hairdresser Oscar actually styling her hair on the show and he gave a couple of hair tips. One of them is if you want it to grow, let it go. Be free and let lose. That will do your hair a big favor.
She also had a few girls on the show who hated their natural hair. She decided to give them a hair make over. And to be honest, none of them liked it. The first girl said she didn’t like and was going back to weaves. The second girl said nothing, but you could tell on her face that she was not feeling it. And the third girl, seemed happy to let her natural curls show, but I have a felling she will be straightening her hair real soon.
I liked what Tyra is doing with her show. She reveals the real side of herself and informs people that celebrities go through a lot of hoops to look picture perfect. Tyra had Perez Hilton on her show and gave him a challenge and in return he can give her a challenge. If she asked me to challenge her, I would ask her to grow out the relaxer and not just wear her real hair, but her natural hair. This was this only misleading part of the show. Natural hair is without chemicals and she definitely had one. And I think that many black women don’t mind wearing their real hair, they just don’t want to wear their natural hair. Click on the show below and tell me what you think about the show.
